Hayelala (The Howl),
Hayelala, a band from northern Israel, are offering in their music a window to the odyssey of the soul.
Sufi melodies meeting jazz and Jewish folklore, and enigmatic lyrics that explore the fine line between prayer and vision.
Hayelala creates original folk music, with its own sense of time and movement. Their performance unfolds like a mythological tale, weaving stories, or like a gathering in a house of prayer where time feels different. The band performs the melodies and lyrics of Nitai Kallay, the group’s lead vocalist. Listening to the songs, we remember the traces of hooves and furry paws imprinted beneath roads and construction sites. We recall a wail that echoes in groves and supermarkets, in fields and beneath the tiles. From this memory, new blood flows in the heart's cells.
In their new performance, Hayelala sings original Sufi psychedelia in Hebrew—a meeting of jazz, poetry, storytelling, and devotion songs.
